Whitby Town FC Goes Green with Fully Funded Solar Power from HDM Energies

Whitby Town FC is embracing solar energy by partnering with HDM Energies, a national renewable energy provider, to install a 43.88kW rooftop solar system - at no upfront cost.

Through HDM Energies’ Energy for All scheme, the club will benefit from renewable energy, reduced electricity bills and a more sustainable future.

The installation will include 75 high-efficiency, 585-watt Astronergy panels and a 69kWh GivEnergy all-in-one battery system, designed to produce 31,734 kWh of clean electricity annually. This will save Whitby Town FC approximately £1,152 per year in energy costs while significantly lowering its carbon footprint.

The environmental impact is equivalent to removing 6 tonnes of carbon, planting 302 trees, or avoiding 54,755 car journeys yearly.

The project also includes fully funded EV chargers, which will generate a new revenue stream while promoting greener transportation for fans and visitors.

HDM Energies’ Energy for All scheme enables clubs like Whitby Town FC to access renewable energy solutions without upfront investment. The scheme operates through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), where clubs purchase the energy generated on-site at a low, fixed rate.

For Whitby Town FC, this arrangement guarantees reliable energy at a consistent price over an 18-year contract, shielding the club from fluctuating market rates while delivering long-term savings.

This initiative was made possible through HDM Energies’ collaboration with Troo, the official energy partner of the Northern Premier League. Troo supports clubs across the league by helping them reduce energy costs and connect with renewable energy solutions such as the Energy for All scheme.

Scott Booth, COO of Whitby Town FC, commented:

“We are delighted to be part of this green initiative in partnership with HDM Energies and Troo. We believe that this development demonstrates our commitment to both the environment and the long-term, prosperous future of Whitby Town Football Club. We would like to thank David and the team at HDM Energies for working with us to achieve our aim to secure a prosperous future for this vital part of Whitby’s community.”

David Todd, National Sales Manager at HDM Energies, added:

“As dedicated supporters of both football and community hubs, we take great satisfaction in providing this zero-cost solution to Whitby Town Football Club and providing enhanced EV facilities for the benefit of residents and visitors to the town.”
