Leek Town Football Club is paving the way toward a sustainable future through a long-term solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with national renewable energy provider HDM Energies.
In collaboration with Leek Town FC and Troo, a national energy consultancy, HDM Energies is facilitating the club’s transition to greener energy with access to rooftop solar at no upfront cost.
As part of HDM Energies’ Energy for All scheme, a 46.8kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system will be installed on the stadium’s rooftop early next year. This advanced solar solution is expected to generate approximately 37,943 kWh of clean energy annually, reducing the club’s energy costs by an estimated £3,450 per year while significantly cutting its carbon footprint.
The installation will include 80 high-performance Astronergy panels, each with a capacity of 585 watts, paired with a 69kWh GivEnergy all-in-one battery storage system. This system will enable the club to store excess energy, allowing floodlights to operate for up to three hours on matchdays - further decreasing reliance on the National Grid.
The environmental impact of the project is significant, equating to planting 361 trees annually, avoiding 43 flights, 65,468 car journeys and removing 8 tonnes of carbon each year.
Under the Energy for All scheme, Leek Town FC will pay only for the energy it consumes at a low, fixed rate. This zero-capex model provides immediate cost savings and long-term energy stability, freeing the club to focus its resources on football and community initiatives.
To further advance the club’s sustainability goals, HDM Energies will also install two shared-revenue electric vehicle (EV) chargers at the stadium. These chargers will promote cleaner transportation among fans and visitors while creating a new income stream for the club.

Jon Eeles, Club Chairman al Leek Town Football Club, added:
