HDM Energies, a national renewable energy provider, has partnered with Bishop Auckland Football Club to deliver a fully funded solar panel array for the stadium’s roof.
Designed to provide long-term value to both the club and the community, the zero-capex installation will feature a 30.26kW solar PV system, comprising 68 445-watt Astronergy solar panels and a 69kWh GivEnergy all-in-one battery.
This solar setup is expected to generate 22,628 kWh of renewable electricity annually, saving the club approximately £1,150 per year in energy costs.
Beyond the financial benefits, the system’s environmental impact is equivalent to removing 5 tonnes of carbon, planting 216 trees and avoiding 39,043 car journeys.
The installation also includes fully funded electric vehicle (EV) chargers, offering a new revenue stream for the club while encouraging the use of cleaner transportation among fans and visitors.
The project is part of HDM Energies’ Energy for All scheme, which provides zero-capital solar energy solutions, enabling organisations to access rooftop solar installations with no upfront costs. Under this scheme, Bishop Auckland FC will purchase the energy generated at a low, fixed-rate through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), significantly lowering energy expenses and its carbon footprint while ensuring a lasting legacy for the club.
This exciting initiative is made possible through a partnership with Troo, the Northern Premier League’s official energy partner. Troo offers expert guidance and support to clubs across the league, helping them make smarter energy choices and connect with sustainable solutions like HDM Energies’ Energy for All scheme.
Steve Coulthard, Club Chairman of Bishop Auckland FC, commented:
“We are delighted to be working with HDM Energies on this renewable project. This solar installation and the fully funded EV chargers will help us lower our costs and create an extra revenue stream. We are grateful to David Todd at HDM Energies and Mark Boyce from Troo for their fantastic support.”
David Todd, National Sales Manager at HDM Energies, added:
“It is a great pleasure to work with such a forward-thinking and ambitious club. Bishop Auckland Football Club represents the best values in sport and demonstrates real care for the environment. We are proud to partner with them on this endeavour.”
