Harvesting the Power of the Sun: Solar Solutions for the Agriculture Industry

The agricultural sector is the backbone of our food supply, but it's also one of the industries most vulnerable to rising costs and environmental challenges. As farmers navigate the complexities of modern agriculture, from volatile price fluctuations to changing supply demands, the need for sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions has never been more critical. At HDM Energies, we offer a transformative solution with our Energy for All scheme, providing solar panel installations for farms and agricultural businesses at no upfront cost.

Harnessing Solar Power on Farm Buildings

Farmers in the UK are facing unprecedented pressures, including escalating electricity bills that further strain already tight profit margins. Farm buildings, with their expansive, unused roof spaces, are ideal for solar photovoltaic (PV) installations. By harnessing solar power, from as little as 15p per kWh* with HDM Energies, farmers can significantly reduce their energy bills and enhance the sustainability of their operations.

Powering High-Energy Agricultural Operations

Agricultural operations often involve high-energy consumption processes, such as refrigeration facilities, warehouses, grain stores, dairy units, livery yards, stables, and chicken housing. These operations not only demand a lot of energy but also contribute to harmful emissions. Solar panels can be installed on the rooftops of these buildings, offering a clean, renewable energy source that can meet the demands of these high-energy enterprises.

Keeping Production on Track

By generating electricity during daylight hours, farmers can match their energy production with their daytime energy use, reducing the need to import energy from the grid. HDM Energies are also happy to discuss their solutions that allow farms to store excess energy for use at night, ensuring continuous productivity during busy harvesting periods, and further lowering electricity costs.

Flexible, Cost-Effective Energy Solutions

In support of agricultural innovation, DEFRA's Improving Farm Productivity grant* has recognised solar PV as a key technology for enhancing productivity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Although initial applications for this grant have now closed, our Energy for All scheme offers an even more accessible way to benefit from rooftop solar without the need for government grants or loans.

Our Energy for All scheme offers solar panel installations with no capital expenditure, providing energy at a fixed, competitive rate starting from just 15p per kWh*. With contract lengths ranging from 5 to 25 years, and warranties for the full duration of the contract, farmers can enjoy stable, predictable energy costs while offsetting their carbon emissions.

The benefits of our scheme include:
• No upfront cost: Solar panel installations are funded by HDM Energies.
• Reduced energy prices: Save on electricity bills with low, fixed rates.
• Inclusive services: We handle the design, financing, installation, and maintenance of your panels.
• Added value: Solar installations can increase the value of agricultural properties.
• Sustainability: Reduce your carbon footprint and contribute to environmental goals.
• Flexibility: The option to purchase the system during the contract for a competitive price.

Future-Proofing Farm Operations

Advanced technologies, such as robotic milking systems, are set to increase the energy demands of agricultural operations in the future, and the adoption of electric vehicles in the industry, including EV tractors and electric quad bikes, are also on the rise. By investing in solar power now, farmers can future-proof their businesses against rising energy consumption and grid dependency.

With our Energy for All scheme, we can add an EV charger to your system for free. All you do is pay a competitive rate for its use. If your farm is open to the public, and you wish to charge them, we also offer a revenue split depending on the unit rate charged by our charging units.

The Path to a Sustainable Future

The integration of solar panels is a crucial step towards sustainability for the agricultural sector. By reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources and minimising environmental impact, farmers can lead the way in sustainable agriculture. Solar power not only helps in cutting costs but also boosts the farm's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) credentials, which can have positive implications with lenders and local authorities.

A Bright Future with HDM Energies

At HDM Energies, we are committed to supporting farmers and agricultural businesses in their journey towards sustainability. Our Energy for All scheme provides an economical and eco-friendly solution to energy challenges, allowing farmers to reap the benefits of renewable energy without financial barriers. With solar power, farmers can enhance their operations, reduce their carbon footprint, and secure a more sustainable future.

*The current domestic energy price cap for electricity is 28.6p per kWh, if you use 60000 kWh per year the cost of electricity is £17,160. At an Energy for All rate of 15p per kWh the electricity cost would be £9,000, saving you £8,160 over 12 months. Price correct as at 01.04.2024 and would be guaranteed for the duration of the contract.
