We’ve partnered with Bridlington Town AFC, home to the Seasiders! They’ve signed a long-term solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with HDM Energies, which enables them to receive low-cost, green energy with no upfront investment. Our sister company, HDM Solar, has supplied a 400-panel solar array capable of generating 180 kW, which has been fitted on the roof of the main stand and the clubhouse at the club’s Queensgate stadium.
The deal provides Bridlington Town AFC access to affordable, renewable electricity to power their 2,800-capacity stadium at a fixed low-cost rate, offering price certainty and improved energy security for the club.
Behind the build
The project has been a huge success for the club and wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible team behind the installation. Pure Renewables, a local company and sponsor of the club, completed the installation to the highest standard. The team fitted 400 Canadian Solar panels, complete with Mounting Systems GmbH for the solid framework and SolaX Power for the inverters that will keep everything running smoothly.
Bridlington AFC sets the EV charging benchmark
Alongside the club’s switch to solar, Bridlington Town AFC partnered with Duracell Energy to install EV chargers at the stadium, further strengthening its commitment to sustainable infrastructure. Connected to the Octopus Energy Electroverse network, the chargers make it simple and convenient for matchday visitors to top up their electric vehicles while enjoying the game - turning dwell time into a practical benefit for fans and a new revenue stream for the club.
Crucially, Bridlington Town AFC has shown what’s possible when EV charging is actively promoted and understood. As a site that is both managed and marketed, the club averages around eight charging sessions per day, generating approximately £1,000 in monthly revenue. Bridlington’s success demonstrates that when businesses recognise the commercial opportunity and champion their chargers through their own channels, EV infrastructure becomes not just a sustainability win, but a reliable income generator too.
Transitioning to a renewable era
By choosing to switch to renewable energy, the club are not only helping to protect the planet, but is generating a huge amount of energy savings, money which can instead be invested into the talent at Bridlington Town AFC.s
By entering into a PPA, over the next 12 years, they’ll benefit from a fixed low tariff on the energy produced right on their rooftops. This will protect them against inflation and give them an incredible expected saving of £42,000 each year! The club is set up to become a net exporter of electricity, which means they’ll be generating more energy than they need. This is brilliant news for the local community, as the stadium could be powering the surrounding area too.
Dan Rogers, founder and director of HDM Energies, said:
It is great to see forward-thinking clubs like Bridlington Town AFC embracing solar to power their stadiums. We are thrilled to be able to facilitate smart energy, lower bills, with no hassle. This ensures they can continue to invest in their future and their community, while benefiting from affordable electricity and clean energy for many years to come.
Powering our future with PPAs
